Our Aims at South West Autism

South West Autism provides services with a focus on children and young people with high functioning autistic spectrum disorder and other neuro-developmental conditions.  We also advise and guide the families and professionals who care for them. Our services are open to all individuals/families, and due to the length of the local waiting list a firm diagnosis is not required.  We work with children and young people in a variety of environments including schools, colleges, at home, in the community and at our centre in Exeter.  We are based in Devon, UK.
“South West Autism” is an umbrella term for the following:
South West Autism C.I.C
South West Autism Support Services
South West Autism Mentoring Services.

South West Autism Community Interest Company (C.I.C) Its main purpose is to raise funds for families to be able to engage in support and social opportunities.  This is obtained through grants and fundraising events. SWA C.I.C is also responsible for the promotion of all our services.

South West Autism Support Services
  • 1-1 Parent/Family Support Sessions.

South West Autism Mentoring Services involves accessing the wider community.
The main aim is to provide….
  • 1-1 support for those who need specific support in successfully re-engaging in education and society. This service will include academic studies when required, for primary aged children.
  • Preparation for transition into a range of education provisions and the wider society. This will include primary, secondary, further, and higher education.
  • A focus on life skills, independence skills, and social skills.
Another important area of mentoring will include peer mentoring for both adults and young people.
This includes groups such as …
  • Friendship Groups (peer mentors to support young people in areas of difficulties, such as upon entering secondary education).
  • Debate / Discussion Groups.
  • Autism and Me Groups.
  • Parent Support Groups will provide vital support, information and sharing of experiences, with the aim of reducing social isolation. It is envisaged that we will be able to include all parents who themselves are diagnosed, undiagnosed and neurotypical.

South West Autism

South West Autism was founded by Lisa and Greg McCullagh who have over 20 years experience in the field of Autism and are parents of a young person diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome.
